Those interested in getting an acting job usually have common grounds to start from.

The theater is perhaps the oldest home for people in acting job positions. Though television and movies may have dimmed the popularity of an acting job in theatre, many people still see stage plays. People interested in a theatre acting job must go through casting calls and auditions for parts. Formal training, experience and the x-factor might work for some people, but it's always being right for the part that gets one that much coveted acting job.

Those interested in an acting job should always be on the look out for casting calls and dates for auditions in television and film. Appearing in TV commercials is also a great way to start an acting career. Frequent appearances on ads can help build your reputation and instant recall from audiences casting directors. Roles in advertisements can also be profitable sidelines for people who have other careers aside from an acting job. When auditioning for an acting job, it would be advisable to have a portfolio of previous appearances.

Working on other unconventional modes of visual entertainment can help build a good portfolio if one is set on getting a serious acting job. Fortunately, acting jobs are also available for people who can act and project emotions or characters using their voice. A voice acting job is usually found in animation and dubbing productions. Those who have the talent to use not only their looks and acting prowess but also their voices can apply for an acting job in radios.
